Gigant Tortoise Conservation in the Galapagos Islands | Segura Campuzano Valery M.

The Galapagos Islands.

 I go a environmental program in the Galapagos Island. I travel to Central America and I live in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, a city on San Cristobal island in Ecuador, It's the main island of the Galapagos archipielago.

In the Galapagos Islands the weather doesn't vary dramatically over the year. It can best described as subtropical.

About the program.

The name of the environmental program is Gigant Tortoise Conservation in the Galapagos Islands. The objetive of this program is to conserve and preserve the unique and abundant flora and fauna found in teh Galapagos Islands. The program work on three long-term goals:

  1. Promate the restauration of natural habitats.
  2.  Protect local wildlife.
  3. Raise awareness in the local comunyti about the importance of protecting the environmental.
I work in the Galapagos National Park and smaler areas of the islan. Some activities in which I participate are:

  1. I have help with conduct surveys to monitor wildlife species.
  2. I have help control invasive plants and reforest native vegetation.
  3. I have assist in the gigant tortoise breading center in the Galapagos National Park.
  4. I have help control inasive species that have been introduced to the island
  5. I have assist in beach cleanup.
In my free time I goin to the beaches where sea birds fly over and sea lions rest on the sand, I going to hiking at the base of the volcanoes and also I going to practice snorkeling or diving along the coast.

I think this project is very interesting and is the perfect combination of theorical environmental learning and physical conservation work.
